Cheyenne came close to tying its record temperature for Oct. 17 on Thursday, according to the Cheyenne Office of the National Weather Service.

The agency posted this statement on its website on Thursday evening:

''For those of you in our community that are history buffs...Cheyenne, WY was only 3 degrees away from tying its record high temperature! Today's high temp was 76 degrees! The daytime temperature max record of 79 degrees for 10/17 occurred in 1928.

In case you wondered how close Scottsbluff, NE fared in comparison to the record books...today's high was 82 degrees. That is only 7 degrees away from tying. The daytime temperature max record of 89 degrees for 10/17 occurred back in 1926!

Needless to say it was a warm and pleasant day for most locations in our area today!"
