“Fake news” is a growing concern, and distinguishing real stories from false ones can be challenging.

Carl Sagan's “The Baloney Detection Kit” offers scientific and logical tools to test truth, similar to Aristotle's use of rhetoric and logic centuries earlier.

Discover these methods and learn how to apply them to evaluate news, ensuring impartial scrutiny free from political or advertising bias.

America's trust in news media has been dropping for many decades and is now at an all-time low.

Reasons for this mistrust include lazy reporting, bad reporting, including amateur mistakes from those who are supposed to be professionals, and outright bias from those who gather and report.

After the 2024 elections, ratings for online and on-air news outlets fell to an all-time low.

This Casper College course is an attempt to teach us how to spot mistakes and bias, as well as the bias of omission, so that we can be more savvy consumers of what news outlets send our way.
