LARAMIE -- Simm-marten Saadi was on his way to Drake.

In fact, the 6-foot-9 freshman even signed the paperwork in late November.

The Bulldogs rolled through the regular season, won the Missouri Valley Conference tournament and toppled Mizzou in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament. A narrow loss to Texas Tech followed.

So did a coaching change.

Ben McCollum pointed his car east on Interstate-80 and cruised 114 miles to Iowa City where he is the new bench boss.

Saadi asked for his release.

Sundance Wicks pounced.

The Estonia native, who played his high school basketball at the famed Sunrise Christian Academy outside Wichita, Kansas, announced Friday he has signed with Wyoming, becoming the 12th newcomer this offseason.

Alex Taylor of WyoSports is reporting that forward Buddy Hammer Jr. (Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College), Wicks' first transfer commit of the spring cycle, was forced to "back out of his commitment."

Saadi, who also received an offer from Bradley, averaged 14 points per game during his final prep season and added seven rebounds and two assists. He also suited up for the Estonia National Team, netting nearly 12 points and seven boards an outing during the u20 European Championship.

Drake's 31-4 run last season was aided by a pair of former Cowboys, forward Cam Manyawu and Kael Combs, who both followed McCollum to Iowa. That freshman duo tagged along with Jeff Linder's former assistant Bryston Williams to Des Moines.

The Bulldogs' miracle run came to an end at the hands of Linder, who is now an assistant on the Red Raiders' staff.

Wyoming lost six players to the transfer portal this offseason, including leading scorer Obi Agbim, who is now at Baylor. Fellow guards Nigle CookLevi Brown and AJ Wills (Hofstra) are also gone. So are forwards Scottie Ebube and Oleg Kojenets (Stony Brook).

University of Wyoming’s Top 50 Football Players

During the summer of 2021, 7220Sports.com counted down the Top 50 football players in University of Wyoming history, presented by Premier Bone & Joint Centers, Worthy of Wyoming.

The rules are simple: What was the player's impact while in Laramie? That means NFL stats, draft status or any other accolade earned outside of UW is irrelevant when it comes to this list.

This isn't a one-man job. This task called for a panel of experts. Joining 7220's Cody Tucker are Robert GagliardiJared NewlandRyan Thorburn, and Kevin McKinney.

We all compiled our own list of 50 and let computer averages do the work. Think BCS -- only we hope this catalog is fairer.
