Wyoming Loves The Unique Flavor Of Fried Pork Skins, Right?
If you've walked down the isles of the grocery or convenience stores, you've seen the appealing bags of Pork Rinds.
Maybe you call them Fried Pork Skins or Chicharrones, cracklins, or 'puke in a bag'. Whatever you call them, you've seen them, tried them, or love them.
You may wonder what it is about the crunchy snack that many people like. You may not be able to pass them by without buying a bag or 4.
I fall into the last category.
Pork rinds have been a staple in my family for as long as I can remember. As a kid there weren't nearly as many flavors as there are today, so we could only get a normal plain bag. If you wanted to spice it up a little, some of the bags included a package of hot sauce.
I'll say that my dad passed down some of his eating habits to me.
- Pork Rinds
- Potted Meat
- Vienna Sausages
- Pickled Pigs Feet
- Pickled Sausages
- Chocolate Gravy
- Jerky
- Sauerkraut
- Pickled Okra, Tomatoes and ANY type of pickles
When dad an I go on road trips together, there's never an issue with road trip snacks. Either of us can go into the store and come out with nearly the same snacks.
Pork rinds are one of the quickest growing snacks in the U.S. This may shock you, but if you've been on any type of low carb, Atkins, keto or paleo diet, pork rinds have been on your radar.
These crunchy, tasty snacks are a good source of vitamins and minerals.
Although I talk highly of these treats, you still have to watch them because of the sodium, cholesterol and fat content. Although healthier than eating a bag of Lays or Doritos, you still have to watch out.
There are some people that snarl their nose at the thought of eating this snack, there are many of us that truly enjoy them.
I mentioned that when I was a kid, the flavor choices were minimal. Today, there are MANY flavors and brands of pork rinds to choose from.
Here are a few
- Plain
- BBQ
- Buffalo
- Salt & Vinegar
- Salt & Pepper
- Hot n Spicy
- Queso
- Apple Cinnamon
- Jalapeno
- Honey Mustard
- Dill Pickle
They're one of my favorite snacks and I always buy, no less than, 3 bags when I go to the store.
