Laramie Looks to Extend Dominance Over South in Week 2 [VIDEO]

The Laramie Plainsmen are back on the road in Week 2 of the 2026 high school football season. They travel to Cheyenne to take on the South Bison on Thursday night. It's a quick turnaround and short week combined into one. LHS has won six in a row against the Bison, and Laramie seeks its first road win this year. The game starts at 6 p.m.

Laramie is 1-1 on the season after last week's 27-21 home win over Rock Springs. QB Dax Parvin threw for a career-best 339 yards and two TDs, with one interception. He found Isaac Kirsch on an 85-yard scoring pass and Boone Frude on a 57-yard screen pass for a TD. The Plainsmen rolled up 412 yards of total offense. Defensively, Laramie allowed over 328 yards rushing to Rock Springs, but the Tigers only threw the ball five times for 25 yards. LHS also won the turnover battle, 2-1.

It's a unique set of circumstances for the Plainsmen on the gridiron this week. They play a day earlier than usual and dealt with a holiday back on Monday.

KOWB's David Settle visited with Laramie head coach Jake Chick to preview the South game. He discussed the short prep time but feels his squad will be ready. Chick said the focus is more internal instead of being about the Bison. He also discussed Laramie's breakout performance through the air last week and trying to build off of that, and what they need to do to improve defensively against the run.

Cheyenne South is 0-2 on the season. The Bison have lost 70-0 and 55-0 in their first two games. They enter the game with negative rushing yards this year and average only 40 yards of total offense per game. South starts a freshman at QB and on the offensive line. They've also opened up their scheme with three wide receivers and one running back, and operate mainly out of the shotgun formation. Defensively, the Bison run a 3-4 formation with a rover.

Laramie is 13-2 all-time against South. The series dates back to 2011. The Plainsmen won last year's meeting, 63-0, in Laramie. The Bison enter this game on a 58-game losing streak.
