The 2023-24 high school Nordic Skiing season begins this weekend in Lander.

That’s a venue change for the opening race. The original site was at the Happy Jack Rec Area east of Laramie, but due to lack of snow, a switch was made to the schedule.

The Lander Invite will be at the Lander Golf Club.

Friday’s skiing is a 4 km Classic race at 1 p.m. The varsity boys will ski first, then the varsity girls in the Lower Meadow of the golf course.

FRIDAY RESULTS

Ally Wheeler of Natrona County won the Friday classic race at 8:44. Emily Anderson of Lander was second (9:24.8), and Emma Pearson of Kelly Walsh was third (9:35.2).

Jack Voos from Laramie won the boys' race at 8:10.5. Luke Pearson of Kelly Walsh was second (8:12.5), and Jackson's William Baxter took third (8:12.8).

Saturday’s race is a 6 km Freestyle race starting at 9:30 a.m. The race order is reversed, as the girls are first, followed by the boys on the Clubhouse Loops at the Lander Golf Club.

SATURDAY RESULTS

Ally Wheeler of NC won the girls' race at 15:55.5. Emily Anderson (17:30.6) and Amaya Eddy (18:27.4) from Lander finished second and third place.

Bennett Hutchison of Lander won the boys' race at 14:40.8. FiskBergstrom Johansson from Kelly Walsh (15:40.3) was second, and Kalel Brubaker of NC (15:40.5) came in third place.

The schools competing this weekend are Casper Kelly Walsh, Casper Natrona County, Cody, Jackson, Lander, Laramie, Pinedale, and Sheridan.

This is the second straight year the Nordic season will start on time.
