LCSO K-9 Sniffs Out 40 Pounds of Marijuana During Final Shift

Sinh Tran made his initial appearance in Laramie County Circuit Court this afternoon.

His bond was set at $10,000 cash and his preliminary hearing was scheduled for Sept. 21 at 3:30 p.m.

A 67-year-old Oakland, California man is facing a felony drug charge following a Tuesday night traffic stop in Cheyenne.

According to the Laramie County Sheriff's Office, Deputy Gebauer and Sgt. Grimm stopped Sinh Nam Tran at mile marker 363.5 on eastbound Interstate 80, about a half mile west of the College Drive exit, around 8:45 p.m.

Grimm's K-9 partner, Arie, alerted on Tran's car and a subsequent search led to the discovery of 40 pounds of black-market marijuana.

"This was K9 Arie's last shift," the LCSO said in a Facebook post Wednesday night. "He retired today because of metastasized cancer."

Tran was arrested and subsequently charged with felony possession of marijuana.

He's scheduled to make his initial appearance in Laramie County Circuit Court this afternoon at 2 p.m.

As for Arie, who was Grimm's crime-fighting companion for 4.5 years, he'll live out the short remainder of his life with Grimm as a couch potato.
