Only three Laramie High School teams were in action last weekend, but one won a conference championship.

The Laramie Plainsmen swimming and diving team won the 4A West meet in Casper. Indoor track competed in Gillette, and Nordic skiing was outside of Lander.

Plainsmen Swimming and Diving

Laramie won eight of the 12 events on their way to the team crown at the 4A West Conference Championships at Kelly Walsh High School in Casper.

LHS scored 456 points and won by 150. Kelly Walsh was a distant second place with 306 team points.

Lowden Ewers was the only double event winner for the Plainsmen. He touched the wall first in both distance freestyle races, the 200 and 500 free. Kyle Morton won the 200 IM. Dylan Bressler won diving. Mace Spiker-Miller placed first in the butterfly race. Josh Lui won the breaststroke. Laramie won the 200 and 400 freestyle relays.

Laramie has a "last chance" qualifying meet at home on Friday. It starts at 4 p.m. LHS has 16 swimmers and divers qualified for next week’s state championship meet in Gillette.

Indoor Track

Laramie took part in the Basin Nation Meet in Gillette last Friday. No team scores were kept at the event.

LHS did not win an event. Both squads finished with nine performances among the top eight in an event.

The best finish for the girls was from Mallorie Hamel and Ashlyn Bingham. Hamel was runner-up in the 200-meters. Bingham finished second in the triple jump.

For the Plainsmen, Quail Perkins was third in both the 55 and 200-meters.

Laramie heads to Casper for the Mustang Invite on Saturday at Natrona County High School.

Nordic Skiing

Laramie skied at the Lander Nordic Invite on the Beaver Creek trails southwest of Lander.

On both days of racing, Eliza Fay and Emmet Shuman were the top finishers for the two teams.

Fay placed ninth in last Friday’s 5km freestyle and was 15th in last Saturday’s 10km classic.

Shuman was tenth in the 5km freestyle and 14th in the 10km classic.

Laramie heads to the Johnny Curtis Junior National Qualifier in Jackson this weekend.

 

Both Alpine skiing and wrestling were off last weekend.
