UPDATE:

The Natrona County School District has provided additional details regarding the situation that occurred on Friday afternoon, involving a student who allegedly brought a gun to the school.

"Today, at approx.12:15 PM, October 7th, Natrona County High School Administration received a report by a student that another student had a gun in their possession in the school," NCSD Public Relations Director Tanya Southerland wrote. "Upon receiving the report and in accordance with our comprehensive district safety plan, NCHS administrators and law enforcement took immediate action."

Southerland stated that officials went directly to the student identified in the report and removed that student from the classroom, securing the situation.

She noted that the student remained in custody of local law enforcement and of NCHS administration.

Southerland wrote that because of the expeditious manner in which school officials and law enforcement handled the situation, no lockout was called.

Southerland noted that NCHS did not receive a report of the student brandishing the gun at any point on campus.

The release from Southerland stated that disciplinary actions towards the student will be aligned with the NCSD Extreme Behavior's Guideline.

“School safety is a priority of the Natrona County School District,” shared Superintendent Mike Jennings. “We want to acknowledge the individual who brought this information forward. We appreciate their courage and understanding that reporting any known or perceived safety concerns is critically important. In addition, we want to thank the NCHS Administration and Casper Police Department for their exceptional professionalism and dedicated action to ensure student and staff safety.”

Southerland wrote that because this is still an active law enforcement investigation, and in an effort to not compromise the integrity of their work, further details will not be provided by the district at this time.
