The Wyoming Highway Patrol has released video that shows a trooper's patrol car being hit by a commercial truck on I-25 last month.

The crash happened on Halloween around milepost 66, about 12 miles south of Wheatland.

Sgt. Jeremy Beck says the trooper had stopped on the shoulder to help a stranded motorist and was sitting in her car with her seat belt on when the collision happened.

"As you can see from the in-car camera, the commercial vehicle had moved over into the left lane of travel," said Beck. "However, the commercial truck was traveling too fast for the hazardous road conditions, causing the driver to lose control."

The crash sent the trooper to the hospital with minor injuries. The truck driver was not injured and was cited for careless driving.

Beck says the video highlights the hazards emergency personnel deal with daily.

"When you see emergency lights ahead, slow down and be prepared to stop," he said. "The emergency lights are activated to warn the public of an imminent hazard or emergency."
