Four structures have been reported destroyed as the Pedro Mountain Fire burning in central Wyoming continues to grow.

The fire, still 10% contained, grew to 10,255 acres by Wednesday morning. Another 25 personnel joined the firefighting effort, bringing the total number to 289.

Evacuations remain in effect for Pedro Mountain Estates, Pedro Mountain Ranch Road and Cardwell Ranch.

The damaged or destroyed buildings include outbuildings and permanent or seasonal homes.

Fire managers believe they can have the blaze contained by the end of September, according to a situation report from the National Interagency Coordination Center.

A red flag warning is in effect for the fire area Wednesday with higher winds and temperatures, as well as very low humidity. Firefighters plan to spend the day securing the edges of the fire and continue protecting structures at risk.

Tuesday saw crews complete a burnout operation, assisted by aircraft, and work to keep the fire away from threatened buildings.

The Carbon County Fire District is seeking permission from landowners within and near the fire perimeter for crews to establish containment lines on individual lots. That would involve clearing away vegetation and would "greatly improve" the likelihood that firefighters would be able to defend the property.

The lightning-caused fire began Saturday.
