Wyoming's largest fire for the summer of 2025 is the Red Canyon Fire, which has been burning primarily in ranchland and grasslands, releasing massive amounts of smoke into the area.

Here is the latest information we have as of Wednesday morning, 8/20/2025.

Red Canyon is now 14 miles east of Thermopolis, Wyoming.

The weather will not cooperate this Wednesday as temperatures will come close to 100° with low humidity.

Winds remain steady and moderate, creating favorable conditions for firefighters in Div. G (northeast part of the fire).

Crews are conducting strategic firing operations north of Bull Mountain and west of Pack Saddle Road.

You may notice significant smoke in the area. That might make you think the fire is bigger and out of control.

But this smoke is from planned burns, which will deny fuel to the actual fire that they are battling.

Rep. Harriet Hageman
FEMA has authorized federal funding, covering 75% of our state’s eligible firefighting expenses, to support Wyoming’s brave first responders battling the Red Canyon Fire near Thermopolis.

If you are in an evacuation zone, please be sure to find safety while our first responders fight to get this fire contained. For more information and resources, visit: https://agriculture.wy.gov/fire or visit this link to see the Red Canyon Fire map.
