Truck Rams Bridge, I-80 Near Rawlins Wyoming

OUCH! That looked like it hurt. Someone has some explaining to do. To his boss, to the state of Wyoming, including the state police, and his insurance company.

He would have made it if he had stayed in the middle of the lane like he was supposed to.

The following recount is based on a Wyoming Highway Patrol post.

The Wyoming Highway Patrol and WYDOT responded to a crash on I-80 in Rawlins. Traffic was redirected onto the ramps at this time and may impact travel in the area. The bridge itself - part of Higley Blvd in Rawlins - is completely closed to traffic at this time.

At approximately 9:00 AM Monday, troopers were alerted to a crash involving a semi-truck crashing into the Higley Blvd Bridge in Rawlins. Troopers arrived to find the semi-truck was westbound on I-80 when it drifted off the pavement and into the median. The truck struck the cable barrier and eastbound guardrail before hitting the concrete bridge support. One of the four supports in the median was completely destroyed.

The trailer of the semi-truck came to a stop with the other three supports embedded in it. The tractor portion broke free and continued out from under the bridge on top of the guardrail.

The driver and co-driver suffered non-life-threatening injuries. This crash is still an active investigation. WHP troopers will work with WYDOT engineers to clear the interstate as quickly and safely as possible. In the meantime, expect the possibility of delays as we work to keep everyone safe.
