The Albany County Sheriff's Office alerts residents to scammers impersonating deputies in a phone scam using spoofing techniques.

One big red flag with this scam as well as many others is that intended victims in some cases are being asked to pay with gift cards or wire transfers.

The scammer has done some research and knows something about the targeted business and uses that knowledge to get the employees to trust him.
