Very large hail (possibly to baseballs), downburst winds to 70 mph and a few tornadoes are possible Wednesday afternoon through mid evening for the area.

It's tornado season, and I know I'm not the only one that loves to watch videos of tornadoes as they move through areas.

There's only been one EF4 tornado in Wyoming history and it happened in the summer of 1987. It was a rare monster high-altitude tornado that carved a path of damage from the Teton Wilderness through Yellowstone National Park.

Some April storms might give rise to tornadic activity over the Rockies and Plains, according to the Farmers' Almanac.

Destructive tornadoes can and do happen in Wyoming. Perhaps the best known is the July 16. 1979 tornado that hit Cheyenne, damaging 200 homes, injuring 40 people, and killing one.

When news channels began to air footage of the tornado-ravaged communities in Western Kentucky, Lyndsay LaPointe and her husband did what most of did - they shook their heads, mourned for the lives lost, and wished that they could do something to help.

The NWS says all types of severe weather are possible including 2-inch hail, 70 mph winds, a few tornadoes and flash flooding.

A few isolated tornadoes are also possible in some areas.

Right now, it looks like severe thunderstorms will be possible across most of the area, especially east of the Laramie Range.

A resident of Pavillion, Wyoming filmed a funnel cloud as it touched the ground.
