This summer you can walk historic South Pass City with a historian and learn about one of the most important towns of the Old West.

SPC Treks The South Pass June 22, 2024 at 11 am.

Explore the greater South Pass National Historic Landmark with local historian Sam Lightner.

This trek will explore the historic South Pass, where hundreds of thousands of emigrants made their way westward.

All Treks meet at the South Pass City Dance Hall and then travel to remote locations. Bring a full tank of gas, water, hiking boots, and your curiosity.

There are 17 restored and exhibited original structures.

Enjoy an ice-cold sarsaparilla.

Play billiards on a restored 1860s period table.

Watch a blacksmith shape hot iron.

Visit the historic Smith-Sherlock General Store.

Pan for gold like the old prospectors did.

Anglers can try their hand at blue ribbon fishing for brook, rainbow, brown, and cutthroat trout in many of the area's streams and lakes.

Wyoming's first Mason Temple is located there.

Visit an old gold mine that was one of the first to be operated by machine.

The first woman governor in the United States was from South Pass City.

This old town is not a reproduction of the Old West for the sake of tourism. It is what the Old West was.

It's a bit of a drive to get out there on a gravel road. But it's the real deal and a trip you'll never forget.

Not far from South Pass City is historic old Atlantic City.
