I took off in my little Cessna 172 from the Casper, Wyoming airport, heading to the town of Lander. I was travelling with a few other airplanes on a weekend group fun flight.

The route took us between mountain ranges and over wide open Wyoming desert areas. It was a stunningly beautiful trip, the entire way.

Every so often I'd look away from the controls and straight down to see what was below me. We were way out in the middle of NOTHING Wyoming.

At times there was maybe only a two-rut road below me. That one road was the only visible sign of humans ever being in the area. However, I did not see anybody driving on it.

Below is a photo of my plane, taken from another plane. It gives you an idea of how far out over the middle of NOTHING we were.

As I looked at the two rut road below me I began to wonder, 'What is the most remote road in Wyoming?'

I think I know, but I'd like to hear what you think.

The one that comes to mind for me is Wyoming's Badwater Road.

I drove that road a couple of years ago. It took almost all day. There are homes and ranches out there. But not many. Can I find a road more remote than this? I'd like to know.

There is a road that even those who were born and raised in Wyoming might not know about. Yet it is one of the most beautiful drives in the state.

If you suffer from "get-there-itus" then this is not the trip for you.

But if you want an all-day trip where you plan to jump out and look at one awe-inspiring view after the next, you'll want to start on Badwater Road and head north.
