A hydroelectric plant that has been idle in Wyoming for 15 years is scheduled for demolition.

But Wyoming senator Barrasso wants to save it, turn ownership over to local control, and save the plant.

The plant sits on just a small 2 1/2 achers and could be restarted to provide local power.

There was an objection to the senator's bill, which would only affect 2.1/2 achers in Wyoming.

Senator Barrasso was ready for this objection and promised to offer objections to senators from states who want to save anything on far more land than 2 1/2 acres in their state.

During remarks on the Senate floor, Sen. Tina Smith (D-MN) objected to Sen. John Barrasso's (R-WY) bill that would transfer 2.5 acres of federal lands to Wyoming.

Let me assure the Senators from Minnesota and New Mexico that I will be vigilant in watching out for bills that impact at least two and a half archers in their home states.

For example, the Senator from New Mexico right now has a bill and it was reported favorably out of the Senate Natural Resource Committee.

Madam President, that bill established 12 thousand archers, not two and one-half achers, twelve thousand archers of wilderness in New Mexico.
