Two storm systems will combine to bring winter weather to all of Wyoming this week, making for dangerous travel conditions in some areas.

The highest impacts are expected on Interstate 80 and adjacent roads. K2 Radio Meteorologist Don Day of DayWeather in Cheyenne says the storm should last from early Wednesday through early Thursday, with much colder temperatures, snowfall and some areas of blowing snow.

Interstate 25 is also expected to see high travel impacts.

Early Wednesday morning will see light snow showers developing in northern Wyoming, including the I-90 area. Southwestern Wyoming will also see developing snow showers during those hours.

Snow showers will expand into central, eastern and southeastern Wyoming throughout Wednesday. That evening into Thursday morning, snowfall will increase and could become heavy along I-80 between Laramie and Rock Springs, particularly impacting the areas of Wamsutter, Rawlins, Arlington and Elk Mountain.

Lighter snow will fall Wednesday through Wednesday night across northern and northeastern Wyoming.

Day says snow will linger through the early morning hours of Thursday along I-25 and I-80 in southern Wyoming, with the storm system moving south into Colorado through Thursday evening.

Casper was under a winter weather advisory Tuesday afternoon. Also included in the advisory area were Evanston, Kemmerer, Laramie, Rock Springs, Riverton, Thermopolis, Buffalo and Douglas.

A winter storm warning was issued for Lander, most of Sweetwater County, Rawlins, southwestern Natrona County and Casper Mountain.

Casper is expected to see four to six inches of snow, with higher amounts likely on the south side of town and from Powder River to Waltman.

Casper Mountain, meanwhile, could see three to nine inches of new snow accumulation.

Highways 789, 287, 220 and the eastern side of South Pass are expected to be hazardous due to blowing snow and icy conditions.

Anyone who must travel in areas where high storm impacts are possible is urged to keep an extra flashlight, food and water inside their vehicle in case of emergency.
