The Wyoming Department Of Transportation released a video walk-through of the westbound tunnel near Green River Wyoming.

The devastation will take your breath away.

It seems amazing that anyone survived the wreck at all.

There are no lights in the tunnel, which is about 1/4 mile long.

They had to provide portable lights to see anything.

The video was originally shot by the Sweetwater Country Sheriff's Office. The way the video camera moves it looks like they shot the video with a drone.

You can watch the video below.

The cleanup of the Green River tunnel crash in Wyoming has begun, but slowly.

This will take a while.

Below is a video from a professor of engineering who is looking at what happened and offers his opinion on what WYDOT will need to do to make sure the tunnel is safe.

This is the same gentleman we featured on the highway collapse through Teton Pass, last year.

It's not just a matter of pulling the vehicles and hosing out the mess.

There are structural issues to consider.

He gets to how WYDOT will have to proceed with their evaluation at 3:30 into the video.

In this video, I discuss the engineering and construction aspects of reopening the I-80 tunnel after the recovery operation has been completed.

Several vehicles were involved in the crash and resulting fire inside the westbound I-80 tunnels in Green River Wyoming that occurred February 14, 2025.

The fire burned for several hours which resulted in significant damage to the tunnel liner and tunnel infrastructure. (Casy Jones, Youtube).

He thinks there might be many, many weeks involved in just assessing the condition of the tunnel.

In the video, he then goes on to show how they do that, including what modern equipment is used to measure the thickness of the cement that lines to tunnel and how it fared after several explosions and being exposed to long hot fires.

He thinks that, as work progresses, WYDOT will allow cars through on a narrow lane, but big trucks will still have to go around.

A Little Wyoming School House Preserved In Time

The little hamlet of Slater Wyoming has preserved on of their last two remaining buildings with all the love they feel for it.

There was once a tiny town on this spot.

Most everything is gone except the schoolhouse and the community building.

I stopped by one Saturday morning and the locals were more than happy to let us in to have a look.
