If you want to see those grand Wyoming bears, you'd better hurry. They will all be in bed soon.

Photographer Matt Geo Wilder has spent the summer, now transitioning into fall, photographing wildlife in Wyoming's Teton National Forest. He's decided to put a video together of the best bear sitings he has.

The bears of Yellowstone/Grand Teton didn’t make filming easy this summer… but they made it unforgettable. (Matt Geo Wilder).

The video montage below is a wonderful compilation of still photos and videos that Matt has taken over many days hiking in that area. It takes a lot of patience to get shots like these.

Grand Teton National Park is home to both grizzly and black bears, and while bear sightings are common, attacks are rare.

The big sleep has begun. In November, most bears in Grand Teton National Park are hibernating, as black bears enter dens by late October and grizzly bears begin to den in November.

But you might still get lucky and see one or two. Some late-denning grizzlies may still be active in early November, especially if they are still searching for food to build up fat reserves. Visitors should still be bear aware, carry bear spray, and make noise to avoid surprising any remaining active bears.

To stay safe, visitors should be aware of their surroundings, make noise while hiking in groups of three or more, carry bear spray, and maintain a safe distance of at least 100 yards from any bear. Spring (May-June) and late summer (August-September) are generally good times to see bears.
