Wyoming Governor Signs Online Sports Betting, Revenge Porn Bills
Wyoming Governor Mark Gordon on Monday signed 31 more bills passed during the 2021 session of the Wyoming Legislature into law.
Those included a bill legalizing online sports wagering in Wyoming as well as another targeting so-called "revenge porn." House Bill 133 [now known as House Enrolled Act 50] will legalize online betting on sporting events when it takes effect on September 1.
Those events could include anything from NFL and college football to the Olympics, among many others. You can read House Bill 133 here. The governor also on Monday signed into law House Bill 85 [now known as House Enrolled Act 53].
This bill, officially known as the 'Unlawful Dissemination of an Intimate Image" bill, is aimed at the publication of intimate images, generally involving nudity or sexual activity, without the permission of the person in the photo. In addition to actual photos, photoshopped images of a person's head on someone else's body portraying nudity or sexual activity are prohibited under this bill.
A typical scenario would involve the posting or publication of an ex-boyfriend's or -girlfriend's or spouse's image after a breakup as a form of revenge. Prior to the passage of this bill, Wyoming was one of the few states without a "revenge porn" law on the books.
