Pickup VS. Cow, Gory Aftermath, Torrington Wyoming
HOLY COW, with all due respect to the now deceased cow.
A Wyoming rancher on his way to Torrington hit a cow on the road. There is not much left of the cow. There is also not much left of this gentleman's pickup truck.
Have a look at the video below to see the full extent of the damage.
No humans were hurt in this smack and splat, which is surprising when you see the extent of the damage to this pickup truck. From the looks of it, we should be able to guess that the cow never felt a thing.
A black cow on a road at night would not have been seen by the driver until the last moment, and by then it is too late.
On US Highway 26 near Torrington, Wyoming, the speed limit is generally 70 mph on paved, non-urban sections. So we can assume that this pickup was doing at least that, then it hit the poor animal.
The average cow weighs around 1,200 to 1,500 pounds (544-680 kg), but this varies significantly by breed, age, and sex, with some lighter dairy breeds like Jerseys around 800-900 lbs and larger beef breeds exceeding 1,400 lbs, while industry standards often use 1,200 lbs as a benchmark.
Not to be gross, but at the beginning of the video, you can see large chunks of cow impeded in the front end of the vehicle.
There was enough of an impact to shatter glass on all sides, including the rear window. The truck caved in like an accordion, which is what they are designed to do when they hit something big. The trick will sacrifice itself to save the people inside.
