Recently, I took a walk down to the mouth and into Devil's Gate, Wyoming. It is a short hike well worth every step.

Speaking of step, watch your step if you do this. COW PATTIES ARE EVERYWHERE. Honestly, it's unreal.

Sure, I was looking at the gate and the mountains around me. But I had no choice but to watch my feet because. COW PATTIES ARE EVERYWHERE.

After a while, I started to see things in them. Like one sees images in clouds. These enormous piles of PLOP started to look like faces and animals. It was fascinating. What weird things the mind will do with a big pile of bovine bowl movement.

Then, I came across one that looked like a Blooming Onion from  Outback Steakhouse. Or maybe we can picture some stinky flower with a lot of flies on it. Either way, it had character.

I noticed that cow patties start out all warm and squishy, but later become hard and crunchy. The older they get the more character they have. It's all in how you choose to look at them.

Don't step in the fresh ones, you'll regret it. But don't worry if you step on an old one, they can get hard as a rock.

Navigating the minefield of mush had me chuckling after a while. Then, I looked up to see just how many paddies were out there. DEAR LORD, this might be the most fertile land in Wyoming.

I was tempted to find an old hard one and see how far I could toss it like a Frisbee. There are cow patty tossing competitions across America. But I knew the smell would stick to my hands the rest of the day. So - pass.

Jay Em, Wyoming, Frozen In Time

Jay Em, what an unusual name for a town. The few people who live there are proud of what their spot on earth once was, and they work to preserve it. They keep this little community frozen in time.
