NOTHING TO BE AFRAID OF, That’s Normal In Wyoming
YUP, as states go, Wyoming is a bit different, and we like it that way.
If you are a new resident of Wyoming or are just visiting, here are a few odd things to watch out for. Nothing dangerous, just different. DO NOT BE AFRAID!
Here are five things that are completely normal in Wyoming… but weird almost everywhere else:
Driving 2 hours and calling it “not far.” People here will casually drive across half the state for dinner, a rodeo, Costco, or a football game. Also, when you ask people how far something is, they won't tell you in miles; they will tell you how long of a drive it is. It's not about the times; it's about the time it takes.
Waving at strangers. Half the time, you don’t know the person. You still wave. If you are driving on a back road, and we have a lot of back roads. That wave consists of lifting two fingers off the steering wheel as the other car passes.
Your weather app meaning absolutely nothing. Sunny. Snowing. Hailing. 50 mph wind. Then somehow beautiful again an hour later.
Seeing more antelope than people. Especially once you get outside the bigger towns.
Making plans based on road conditions instead of traffic. In Wyoming, nobody asks, “Is there traffic?” They ask, “How’s the pass?”
BONUS ITEMS:
Some other things to note are the armed citizens. Wyoming has more guns per capita than any other state, and yet at the same time we have one of the lowest murder and crime rates.
It's quiet out here. We like quiet.
