Let's take our 50 states and color coat them.

Black will mean that under 50% of the people in that state own guns.

Red will mean that over 50% of the people own guns.

Purple means that there are more guns than people.

There is only one state that is purple.

TAKE A WILD GUESS AT WHICH ONE!

In Wyoming, an estimated 66.2% of adults live in homes with guns, according to CBS News

This translates to an estimated 66 firearms per 100 residents, making Wyoming the state with the highest rate of gun ownership, according to Ammo.com

Yes, data suggests that Wyoming has a higher number of guns than people.

Wyoming has the highest number of registered guns per capita in the U.S., with about 195.7 guns per 1,000 residents.

This translates to roughly 114,052 registered firearms in a state with a population of 582,658.

So if that is the case, then Wyoming must be the most dangerous state to live in, right?

In 2025, Mississippi had the highest gun violence rate in the United States, with a rate of 29.6 gun deaths per 100,000 residents.

Louisiana followed with a rate of 28.2, according to U.S. News & World Report.

By state, the overall gun death rate declined slightly from 2021, but gun suicides reached an all-time high.

In terms of states, the District of Columbia had the highest gun murder rate, followed by Mississippi, Louisiana, Alabama, and New Mexico.

States with the lowest rates included Hawaii, Utah, Nebraska, Idaho, and Massachusetts.

Overall, the gun is not really the issue.

States with the highest murder rate do not necessarily correlate with the highest number of guns or the strictest gun laws.

Wyoming's Ceepiest Pet Cemetery

The writing on the stones shows that these people loved their pets so much that they wanted to take special care of them when they died.

Yet, approaching this place looks like something out of a Stephen King novel.
