Wyoming Is Considered For National Nuclear Waste Storage
If you were president of the United States and you had to pick a state to store the nation's nuclear waste, Wyoming would have to be on that list.
Wyoming has a huge amount of land with the lowest population. It is an obvious choice.
Is nuclear waste storage really dangerous?
A nuclear power plant is to be built in Kemmerer, Wyoming.
There are proposals for the construction of portable micro nuclear reactors by two companies that wish to build those reactors in Wyoming. One company in Campbell County and one in Natrona County.
In each case, these companies will have to store their nuclear waste onsite temporarily. Nobody is sure how long "temporarily" will be.
America needs a place to store its nuclear waste.
The U.S. stores nuclear waste at temporary on-site facilities like spent fuel pools and dry casks at nuclear power plants, as well as at a few large-scale sites for defense-related waste.
The video below, by Prager University, calls the nuclear waste problem - A MYTH!
Most nuclear waste is not yet permanently stored, with the planned Yucca Mountain facility for high-level waste stalled by political issues.
The Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) in New Mexico permanently disposes of a specific type of low-level defense-related waste called transuranic waste.
However, the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) near Carlsbad, New Mexico, disposes of defense-related transuranic waste, and some states, like Wyoming and potentially Texas, are being considered for new high-level waste storage facilities, although this is highly controversial.
There are also existing facilities for low-level waste disposal, and most high-level waste is currently stored on-site at nuclear power plants

HB16, a bill being considered by Wyoming state lawmakers, would open the door for a high-level nuclear waste storage facility within state boundaries.
Choosing a state like Wyoming would make sense since Wyoming is such a large state with the smallest population in the USA.
But no state really wants that job.
