Wyoming Smoke Alert, Thursday 10/03/24
Those two big smoke-producing fires are still driving most of the smoke in Wyoming.
It's coming from Togwotee Pass, on the western side of the state, and in the northern part of the Bighorn Mountains.
some areas are under an air quality alert, once again, as winds shift and blow smoke around.
The map above shows two big plumes across the region with lighter smoke from Utah blanketing the state.
A good breeze will push some fresh air across the southern regions, again.
But that same wind will fan the flames up in Togwotee Pass.
You can see on the map that Sheridan, Gillette, and Moorecroft are directly under the plume for the early part of the day.
But there is a little relief in sight for these towns
Below are the forecasted winds for Thursday afternoon.
The good news for the Bighorn fire is it will push the blaze back up into the mountains, toward areas that it had already burned.
But that's still fanning the flames in other areas.
This might provide some much-needed smoke relief for towns like Write, Morecroft, Rozet and Gillette,
From Kaycee, up to Buffalo, Story, Sheridan, Ranchester, and Dayton, this is going to be a smokey day as the air comes to almost a standstill at the eastern base of the Bighorn Mountains.
Above Sheridan, in the Bighorn Mountains, is the Elk Fire.
