Binge Watching Wyoming’s Outer Range Season 2
The second season of the Amazon Prime TV series Outer Range has dropped.
If you were looking for something to watch over this long weekend, there are just enough episodes to fill your time.
I just finished binge-watching it so I'll clue you in, without any spoilers.
Season 2 is just as good as season 1, in my opinion, and it does answer a lot of the questions you might have been left with after the first season.
At the same time, you'll be left with many more questions.
It's complicated.
A mysterious hole in Wyoming that allows people to just through and travel back and forth in time both solves problems and creates new ones.
You'll have to pay attention because season 2 drags in time travel along with alternate timelines.
There is a lot of crisis crossing of the same characters.
That means if you look away for a moment you might miss something that will confuse you later on.
Is the time hole a living thing, or something being used to manipulate people? There are hints to that effect.
Anyone from Wyoming will have to forgive a few items that they fudge in the story.
For example, someone might drive from the Tetons to The University Of Wyoming and back in the afternoon. We all know that is really an all-day drive, one way.
There is also a trip from the Tetons to the Wind River Reservation that occurs a lot faster than it should.
They do a good job of portraying the culture of the state.
For those who have already binge-watched season two here is a video breakdown on what you saw, in case you were confused by anything.
Who am I kidding? You were confused by more than a few things.
Season 2 of the Amazon Studios series Outer Range has been described as Yellowstone meets The X-Files with some Twin Peaks vibes.
That's accurate.
But when you see the Tetons in the background don't be fooled. They did not shoot this series in Wyoming.
They went to New Mexico and created the fictional town of Wabang in the fictional county of Amelia, Wyoming.
The main street of the Amelia County town of Wabang is actually Bridge Street in Las Vegas, NM.
The buildings are real. It's actually a town and there is no CGI.
The Bison Valley Bank of Wyoming branch is the Community 1st Bank at 518 Douglas Avenue, also in Las Vegas NM.
Hearing Douglas Ave. might make you think of Douglas, Wyoming.
It's not.
So, if you're wondering why the Tetons seem to be everywhere and they always look PERFECT- it's because they are added in later.
Outer Range Season is about the Abbott family and had us wondering what was going on through most of season one.
Season 2 of Outer Range is available to binge on Prime Video.
Star and director Josh Brolin told Collider's Steve Weintraub that they have more mysteries including alternate timelines.
It's been two years since the first season was released.
We all need a recap.
You can watch a recap in the video below.
The first trailer for Outer Ranger left viewers confused. X-Files, or perhaps even Twin Peaks, on a Wyoming Ranch? Who knows?
Thankfully, there is a big hole in the plot.
By "BIG HOLE IN THE PLOT" I mean the big mysterious hole that has opened up on the western archers on this Wyoming Ranch.
In this show, a viewer has to pay attention to the details. There are a lot of mysteries to unravel.
After watching the first two episodes the viewer is given a sense of direction for the story, but there is still plenty of mystery left to unpack.
It seems to have something to do with time.
At this point, there is no clue as to how or why the hole is there.
Now that Wyoming folks have had a chance to watch a little of it, let's see what they had to say. Their comments are below.
EPISODE 1: Wyoming rancher Royal Abbott discovers an unfathomable mystery at the edge of his property, setting in motion a catastrophic chain of events.
EPISODE 2: The Abbott family frantically conspires to cover up their crimes but can’t piece together what has happened to Royal.
Here is what Wyoming viewers have said so far about Outer Range.
