Atlas Theater Windows Finally Repaired After Cheyenne Hail Storm
You've heard of tornado alley. Have you heard of Hail Alley? Hail Alley stretches from southeast Wyoming down into Texas. Out of that entire stretch, Wyoming gets some of the biggest hail balls due to its high altitude.
On August 1 of 2025, Cheyenne was hit with 3-inch hailstones. The storm smashed windows, shredded home siding, totaled cars, and was declared a catastrophe by insurance companies.
The historic Atlas Theatre in downtown Cheyenne suffered extensive window pane and exterior facade damage during the severe Cheyenne hailstorm. For several months, folks have been driving by the theater wondering when those windows were going to be fixed. It is finally happening.
This week, the Atlas Theater posted the following on social media.
We are repairing the windows from the hail damage! Thank you, Cheyenne Downtown Development Authority - DDA and Meta, for the funding for this project. And thank you, Emma's Old Time Photos, for capturing the action today!

It's about time, and we are all happy to see it.
The hailstorm that struck Cheyenne, WY, on August 1, 2025, was an expensive one. It caused tens of millions of dollars in total property damage, estimated to be around $25 million across the city.
"Hail Alley" is a geographic region in the central United States—primarily spanning eastern Colorado, Wyoming, and Nebraska and down to Texas.
Higher altitudes (roughly 2,000 to 6,000 feet above sea level) mean the freezing level in the atmosphere is much closer to the ground. That is bad news for cities like Cheyenne. Hailstones have less time to melt in the warmer lower air before striking the surface.
