A 35-year-old Fort Collins man is facing several charges after allegedly stabbing his dog and assaulting another man early Monday morning.

According to a post on the Fort Collins Police Services Facebook page, police were called to the 400 block of Smith Street a little after 2 a.m. on March 2 on a report of a residential disturbance.

Officers found Aaron La Guardia, who was allegedly under the influence of illegal drugs, had stabbed his dog and physically assaulted a male victim.

The other people in the home had escaped before police arrived, but La Guardia was still inside. Police called him up and talked him into surrendering, after which he was arrested and taken to jail.

The male victim as not seriously injured, but the dog died from his injuries.

La Guardia faces several charges, including felony aggravated cruelty to animals, felony menacing, first- degree burglary and a misdemeanor charge of third-degree assault.

He faces a March 9 court date.
