Learn Important Skills You Need To Be A Wyoming Mountain Man
Everyone has always told you that you should be prepared, right?
If a winter snowstorm is coming, you're checking to ensure you have everything you need in case you're without power or snowed in for a few days. If you're going on a long road trip, your emergency bag is packed and stowed in your vehicle. Pack everything you'll need to be safe and comfortable when hiking in the mountains or on a backcountry camping trip.
Even if you've never had to use anything you prepared for those events, you probably didn't know that the art of preparing and survival skills would be training you for an event like Taps & Traps: A Mountain Man Survival Night.
If you've always wanted to be a mountain man, mark your calendar for April 19. The Wyoming State Museum in Cheyenne has organized a night of history, beer, wine, food, and interactive mountain man learning opportunities.
Experts from the American Mountain Man Association, Ft. Laramie National Historic Site, Fort Bridger State Historic Site, and the Red Cross will be on hand to answer questions and give advice on survival and preparedness. The night will include beer from Blue Raven Brewery and Wine from The Blue Stem Wine House. The Mad Flavors food truck will have food for purchase.
There will be programs throughout the night where you can show off your mountain man skills, learn about the history of the American fur trade, and learn things you don't know from the experts.
Living in the wilderness isn't as easy as you may think, and you'll learn all about the hard times Mountain men face.
The event begins at 5:30 and lasts until 8:30 on the evening of April 19 in Cheyenne. Admission is $20 and includes two drink tickets. Attendees are encouraged to wear their favorite mountain man/ woman outfits for an extra drink ticket.
