When Should Wyoming Kids Start Trick-or-Treating on Halloween?
In just a few days, doorbells will be ringing across Wyoming as kids take to the streets in costume, clamoring for sweet treats. When I was a kid, it seemed like a magical signal indicated when it was time for trick-or-treating to start. As a parent, I've realized that 'signal' doesn't exist. I, for one, think it would be extremely convenient to have an official start and end time for trick-or-treating.
Alas, no such 'official' start time exists. But, if we had to pick a time to start trick-or-treating across the Cowboy State, there's no better person to look to for direction than Governor Mark Gordon himself.
Unofficial Timeline for Trick-or-Treating in Wyoming
When it comes to calling the shots in Wyoming, Governor Gordon is the man with a plan. This year, he and First Lady Jenny Gordon are taking part in Halloween festivities by handing out candy to trick-or-treaters at the Governor's Residence.
According to Parade Magazine, any time between 5 and 6 p.m. marks the start of trick-or-treating across the nation. This year, the First Family of Wyoming leans more towards starting at 5 p.m. - kids can visit the Governor's Residence in Cheyenne from 5 to 7 p.m. to snag some Halloween treats.
Alternatively, Parade Magazine also notes that most communities expect trick-or-treating to start around sunset. Here's when sunset arrives across Wyoming:
- Casper: 6:07 PM
- Cheyenne: 5:56 PM
- Cody: 6:07 PM
- Evanston: 6:20 PM
- Gillette: 5:53 PM
- Jackson: 6:16 PM
- Laramie: 5:59 PM
- Rock Springs: 6:13 PM
- Riverton: 6:07 PM
- Sheridan: 5:58 PM
- Torrington: 5:52 PM
- Wheatland: 5:55 PM
When Does Trick-or-Treating Typically End?
If you're handing out candy or looking to set a curfew for your trick-or-treaters, the Today Show indicates that the typical 'stop' time for trick-or-treating is around 9 p.m. based on a 2015 survey conducted by polling organization FiveThirtyEight.
