A 51-year-old Washington man is facing felony drug charges after a Wyoming Highway Patrol trooper reportedly found hundreds of pounds of marijuana in his SUV.

According to a booking sheet, William Parnell Slack was arrested at 10:11 Monday morning, Nov. 13, after a Cheyenne-area trooper stopped him for speeding near mile marker 381 on eastbound Interstate 80, between the Hillsdale exit and the Burns and Carpenter exit.

The trooper says as he was approaching Slack's Chevrolet Tahoe, he observed numerous large garbage bags in the SUV, and as he was speaking with Slack, he also smelled the strong odor of raw marijuana originating from the SUV.

When the trooper stated his observation to Slack, Slack reportedly admitted to marijuana being in the SUV and further stated the quantity was in excess of 100 pounds.

A subsequent probable cause search of the SUV resulted in the discovery of approximately 374 pounds of raw marijuana and a small quantity of THC-infused products.

Slack was transported to the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation for further questioning and processing of his SUV.

Slack was then transported to the Laramie County Detention Center for processing and booking and subsequently charged with felony possession of a controlled substance and felony possession with intent to manufacture or deliver a controlled substance.

He made his initial appearance on the charges Tuesday morning in Laramie County Circuit Court, during which his bond was set at $10,000 cash and his preliminary hearing was scheduled for next Wednesday, Nov. 22, at 1:30 p.m.
