Eligible voters who live in Laramie County Fire District #1 will decide the fate of a proposed bond issue to pay for equipment and fire station improvements, according to Laramie County Clerk Debra Lee.

A release from Lee's office explains the proposed bond issue as follows:

''The election asks voter approval for equipment purchases and fire station improvements through the issuance of up to $3.1 million in general obligation bonds.  Interest on the bonds may not exceed 3.5 percent per annum and would mature in six years. If the measure is approved by voters, bonds will be payable from ad valorem property taxes levied against all taxable property in the District in amounts sufficient to pay the principal of and interest on the bonds in each year.''

The election is only open to residents of the district, a roughly 180-square mile area that extends south of the city of Cheyenne to the Colorado border.

Registered voters can ask for mail absentee ballots starting on Sept. 26 through Nov. 4. The ballots can be requested either by calling the Clerk's office at 307-633-4242 ar by emailing a request to election@laramiecountyclerk.com with the subject line Absentee. Voters will need to provide their name, date of birth, residential address and mailing address.

On election day, the polling place will be the LCFD#1 station, located at 207 E. Allison Road. The polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Lee says roughly 2800 registered voters live in the district.
