Newspapers Close & Wyoming Struggles To Post Legal Notices
What will happen to Public Notices now that 8 local Wyoming newspapers have shut down?
By law, local governments must put public notices in local papers so that folks in their community know what is going on.
A the time that this law was passed, newspapers were the best way to communicate this information.
Enter the internet age, and many local governments already post that same information on their website, which could save the taxpayers a lot of money.
Some communities, like Bar Nunn, Wyoming, have been trying to get out of posting legal notices in papers which would be a huge savings to such a small community.
But the law was still on the books, so the information was still posted in the paper, even though most people do not read local papers anymore. They find what they need online.
One local Wyoming government has posted a solution on their Facebook page.
Sublette County
The Board of County Commissioners convened a special meeting on August 8, 2025 to address the need to designate a new official newspaper for Sublette County legal notices, after the abrupt closure of the Pinedale Roundup.
The Commissioners have designated the Rocket Miner as the new official county newspaper.
The Rocket Miner currently has 404 digital subscribers in Sublette County and offers mail delivery of the physical paper.
The publisher is also looking into the possibility of providing local pickup locations, such as newsstands, within Sublette County.
The Rocket Miner will transmit all legal notices to wyopublicnotices.com for FREE access for the public.
Those legals can be accessed for the past 60 days using this link: When on this site, the user does have the option to filter for their desired time constraint, publication name, etc.
Thank you for your help in spreading this information to everyone in Sublette County and for your patience through this transition!
