Recently, we published a story about the skills needed to be a Wyoming mountain man.

But, of course, the story was about what skills were needed maybe 100 or so years ago.

Today you no longer need to fight off Indians and hunt for your food.

TODAY - it's more about fighting off BOAREDOM!

What about THE SKILL NEEDED TO BE A MODERN-DAY WYOMING MOUNTAIN MAN?

A lot has changed.

1). You'll need to know how to drive a 4-wheel drive up a rutted dirt road because that's how you get to your cabin where you will be "roughing it." Honestly who walks it carrying everything they own anymore?

2). You'll need enough electricity to run the fridge and freezer for all the prepackaged food you brought along with your big screen TV, computers, and jacuzzi.

3). Keeping your jacuzzi perfectly PH balanced is an important skill.

4). Is your satellite TV and internet up and running out here in the Wyoming wilderness?

5). Maintaining your four-wheeler or side-by-side is a must. AGAIN, who goes hiking these days? Everybody just rides.

6). Knowing how to pack everything you need, including snacks, so you don't have to go all the way down the mountains and to the nearest Sam's Club to replenish supplies is one of the most important skills you'll need.

You'll need to keep these things working yourself, in most cases. Calling out a repairman for this remote vacation would be more than just a little expensive.

Once you have everything in place you'll be able to sit on your back porch, while watching the "big game" on TV, as you talk about how you could hunt that big elk you just saw on the hillside. Though, everyone knows you're not getting off your fat, lazy butt, to go do that.
