There Is A Real Reason Flat Bed Trucks Sometimes Haul Tiny Toys
I was driving north on I-25, just arriving at Chugwater Wyoming when I saw this little toy truck strapped down onto a trailer.
I laughed and asked my friend to take a picture.
I have seen this before and have always just thought of it as a joke. Something fun to do when the bed the trucker was pulling was empty.
That explanation is sometimes the case.
But I was told that, at times, there is more to it than that.
So I went searching the internet to find out why you sometimes might see this.
It turns out that, in most cases, it's just a driver having fun.
Another explanation is that it might be in memory of a lost son, brother or friend.
It's a tradition among “flatbedders “. It started as a “joke “ with Heavy Haulers, who normally hauled Heavy and oversized equipment.
They began strapping toy replica's of the equipment they normally hauled.
Regular flatbed drivers soon picked up on it, and it still continues today.
For some the reason is superstition. It's bad luck to run empty, so when d/h people would put a toy truck on the deck.
One trucker said he thought that it meant the trucker was heading home.
But most truckers agree with the superstition idea. You should never haul an empty bed. It's bad luck.
I found this explanation on a trucker's chat site.
So, you never know.
It might just be fun.
It might be a game of superstition.
It might really mean something to the trucker as he remembers a son, friend or brother that was lost at a very young age.
It might be just to THRILL kids as they drive by it on the highway.
