To be honest, I haven't tried all the doughnuts that are in the great state of Wyoming. I probably haven't had all the doughnuts in Casper. I know Sherrie's place has some good ones every Thursday. Grant Street Grocery is known to make some fancy treats on the weekends. However, the best doughnut I've had in the state was made by the Amish.

What I'd like to talk about is the experience of an Amish doughnut run. Because this is more than just the delicious, carb-filled, breakfast treat. This is about a day trip to Yoders Country Market. If you've been there, then you know this Amish family knows how to bake. Every Saturday they sell their homemade doughnuts to the public.

Maybe you are on your way to the Big Horn Mountains for a weekend trip. Or possibly you will be near Buffalo. Or like me, you just needed a reason to get out of the house on a Saturday. If the weather is good, the experience is worth it.

Don't expect any over-the-top confection of pomegranate seeds and squash blossoms. It's simple and delicious. They are big and caky yet still have a crust. Chocolate, maple, glazed, bavarian cream, cherry-filled, all simple and classic doughnuts.

If you do go, bring cash or checks. The woodworking, as to be expected, is amazing and detailed. They have oodles of noodles for sale, canned foods, and they even raise corgi puppies.

You won't find a website or find them in the phone book, but according to their pamphlet, they are open Monday through Saturday from 9 AM to 5 PM at 369 Trabing Rd, Buffalo, WY 82834.


For a day trip, Yoders Country Market is well worth the trip. Even if it is just for some doughnuts.
