Cheyenne Man Accused of Threatening Female With Gun Out on Bond

A 78-year-old Cheyenne man charged after allegedly threatening a female with a gun has been released on bond.

According to a booking sheet, Andrew Van Hope was arrested at 1:33 p.m. on Wednesday, May 22, after police were called to his apartment building at 4400 Parkview Dr. for an aggravated assault with a weapon.

Police say a female told them that Hope pointed a pistol at her as he verbally threatened her.

Police say Hope admitted to having a pistol in a holster, but said he never pulled it out or pointed it at the female.

Cell Phone Video Leads to Felony Charge for Cheyenne Man

However, police say a cell phone video recording taken by the female clearly showed Hope holding a pistol in his right hand beside his right leg, contradicting Hope's claim.

Hope was booked into the Laramie County Detention Center and subsequently charged with aggravated assault and battery - threatens to use a drawn deadly weapon, a felony punishable by imprisonment for not more than 10 years.

He made his initial appearance in Laramie County Circuit Court on Thursday afternoon, during which his bond was set at $2,500 cash or surety, which was later posted, and his preliminary hearing was scheduled for May 30 at 2 p.m.
