Many famous Wyoming places have bullet holes. What do you expect from the Cowboy State?

One of Wyoming's oldest and most iconic radio stations is KOWB in Laramie.

It was once owned by Curt Gowdy, a famous network sportscaster with Wyoming roots.

The station has been carrying my morning talk show for a number of years. So I finally decided to pay them a visit.

Thanks to David Settle, a longtime employee of the station and well-known Wyoming sportscaster, I got the grand tour of the old place.

It was just as I imagined it. Stuck in time with a design that dates back many decades to when it was constructed.

On the way out, as an afterthought, David thought to tell me about the bullet holes.

It happened many years ago, but still they remain.

The story David told was of a possible disgruntled employee who drove by when nobody was there and took a shot from the road.

KOWB is out in the middle of a field and this is Wyoming. Nobody would have heard the shots, and if they did, who would think it unusual?

The car continued up the road, then came back for another shot.

Once again, no response from inside.

Getting a little bolder, the man with the gun pulled up, walked up to the building, and peppered it.

A small Santa Claus in the front window met his end that night.

In any other state, bullet holes or shotgun pellets would have been cleaned up. BUT THIS IS WYOMING!

Go into many old Wyoming establishments and the owner or staff will proudly show you the holes they have and tell the story.

One small hole is in the metal frame of the front door. I could see light coming through.

I suggested to David that he put a whistle in it for entertainment, when those famous Wyoming winds blow.
