Wyoming Is Ripe Territory For Diamond Hunting
Geologists and rock hounders love Wyoming.
The state has some of the most exposed geological features in North America.
Among the interesting things to find in Wyoming, besides gold, coal, gas and rare earth minerals are diamonds!
Wyoming has diamond-rich potential if you know what you are looking for
Diamonds are made up of only carbon, which is the same element that makes up graphite.
It makes sense. There is a lot of coal in Wyoming. Diamonds are made from coal that has been put under great pressure.
Diamonds are found in places where volcanic events happened. Once again that would be WYOMING!
Like looking for gold, rivers can transport diamonds to locations further away from where they formed.
Have you heard of the Boden Placer Deposit in Wyoming? It's an area that is filled with gems.
Millions of years ago, in the Boden Placer Deposit volcanic, activity occurred deep below the Earth’s surface making it possible for diamonds to form.
These gems were uplifted with the rest of the state and are being reveled through erosion.
But don't relegate your search to just one area.
The gentlemen in the video above have found an area in The Bighorn Mountain that used to be a small diamond mine.
Diamonds were discovered in southeastern Wyoming in 1975 about 25 miles south of Laramie.
Since then, more than 130,000 diamonds have been found in the Colorado-Wyoming State Line kimberlite district.
These vary from microdiamonds to high-quality gems, with one as large as a 28.3-carat diamond found in Colorado.
