Online Poll: Who Is Cheyenne’s “Citizen of the Year” For 2023?

The nominating votes for our "Citizen of the Year" have been tallied.

A total of 237 nominations were received, with many people doing outstanding things in our community receiving votes.

But these four were the top vote-getters. We also included some of the nominating comments with each of the four.

Here are the nominees

Landyn Medina

"Helping to promote positivity within the community as well as support and promote local businesses."
"He does so much for our community between the Facebook page with support information. He did a trunk or treat, coat drive. He helps support local shops and stores."
"Created "Connections". It's a Facebook group that connects the community in a positive manner. He is constantly doing community activities to support a variety of efforts. He encourages positive interactions in all he does."

Angel Maldonado

"Continuous community service and events hosted by himself and his barbershop, Presidential Barbershop, We Got Your Back, and the Christmas toy drive he hosted, to name a few. He is an amazing force for our community and those that need it the most."
"Created “We Got Your Back,” which provides free clothes, haircuts, backpacks, and school supplies to children in need before the school year begins. Also, gave away over 10,000 in presents for underprivileged families in Cheyenne this year."
"He does so much service for Cheyenne; he runs We Got Your Back to give backpacks, school supplies, and haircuts for hundreds of kids each school year, and just started the Christmas portion of it for toys, clothes, and haircuts for kids who need to at Christmas time. He gives everything in the organization to the community and doesn’t make any money off of it. He truly cares."

Richard Johnson

"Richard is always community-oriented and going the extra mile to create new things in Cheyenne and spearheading new events and venues. He is what Cheyenne needs always."
"City council president & on the city council since 2007, Animal Shelter board, Greenway Foundation Fundraising, Cheyenne Little Theater Zombie Fest supporter skateboarders access to downtown, Rooted in Cheyenne, for his birthday in lieu of presents he had a fundraising event for Hope Hispanic scholarships."
"He serves not only on our city council and does an outstanding job representing just constituents, but he also volunteers for the Cheyenne Historical Preservation, Arts Cheyenne, Rooted in Cheyenne, HOPE Hispanic Scholarship Fund, and Habitat for Humanity. he is always willing to go the extra mile to help his community and for that are less fortunate."

Candi Gonzalez

"She has helped people with all kinds of things. She's the go-to person for food, clothing, and whatever someone needs. She is the angel that moves mountains to help."
"They run Wyoming family assistance along with a lawn snow removal business, and the money they make from business, a certain percentage goes back to the group to help provide food, grocery and holiday and community events."
"Community events, free resources to those in need, extending herself and her family to assist everyone in Cheyenne she can. Started Wyoming family assistance. Organizing family adoptions for Christmas."

So who do you think should win the title of "Cheyenne Citizen of the Year? We'll keep the voting open through the holiday weekend and announce the winner on Tuesday, January 2.

Regardless of who wins, congratulations to each of our nominees, all of whom received a lot of nominating votes and are highly regarded by the citizens of Cheyenne.
